If choosing bedding for the guest room always keep in mind that what you like may not be a color that your guest will like so try and keep to colors that are relaxing and not to dramatic. If the style is contemporary use bedding with clean lines no frills and fussy details. Lay some nice throw cushions on top of the bed for that little added detail. Remember that there is more to bedding than sheets pillowcases duvets and blankets. You may want a bedspread to cover your bed with during the day. A bedskirt is also an option for divans. Bedskirts usually go between the mattress and the divans and they hang down to either hide the divans or hide the space under your bed (which is great if you have got a lot of stuff under there!). Pillow shams which are like large decorative pillow cases are another piece of bedding you may decide to purchase. You can often find many lines of bedding that provide all of these in the same pattern or colour.
Your second consideration should be support and comfort for your weight and build. Good and proper support is determined by the coil springs inside the mattress and should be conducive to proper spine alignment. You must be able to try out the beds by lying on them for at least 10 minutes getting a feel of how firm the mattress is. When you lying sideways your spine should be straight and when you lie on your back your spine should maintain its natural curve. Do as Goldilocks did and choose a mattress that is not too hard not too soft but just right and according to orthopedic experts that should mean the firmest and most supportive mattress you feel comfortable in. Try your usual sleeping positions as well as a few tosses and turns. If it is going to be a bed for two you should go for something larger and one that minimizes partner disturbance and should enable you to lie side-by-side with your arms behind your head and elbows out but not touching.
